About
Nutritional ServicesNutritional
Services was created in 1974 to meet the nutritional needs of Seniors as
a result of the Older Americans Act.
Our
Mission
The
Mission of Nutritional Services is to promote healthy aging and maximize
independence through nutrition, wellness and supportive services in the
community.
The quality and dignity of the service
provided is by far the greatest goal of those who have dedicated their
lives working or volunteering in this field.
History
The agency began in 1974 with a staff of
four and quickly opened 4 centers in the first year of operation.
Now the agency employs over 70 full and part-time staff and uses many
more volunteers. The operating budget exceeds $2.25 million a
year.
The agency operates with a three county
board of directors and a senior advisory council.
We provide home
delivered meals "Meals on Wheels" to the
homebound frail elderly. We have close to 50 routes each day to
deliver meals within Muskegon, Ottawa and Oceana Counties. Other
seniors may attend one of our 20 Senior
Luncheon Centers in this region. Most of the centers are small
neighborhood operations.
Our Food Service
Kitchen
Our food service kitchen was
acquired in 1980 with renovations a few years later and is located
at 255 West Sherman in Muskegon, Michigan. This facility prepares over
300 site meals and over 800 home delivered meals each day. That's over
360,000 meals each year for seniors.
The staff management
team is Serv-Safe Certified and the majority of employees are annually
certified in sanitation.
Our Funding
The funding that enables us to
provide these meals for seniors throughout the Muskegon, Ottawa and
Oceana Counties comes from a variety of sources. If you are
